Who we are
Avaaz means "voice" in many of the world's languages. We launched in 2007 with a democratic mission: to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want.
We are a global community of millions, organising across borders to build a better future. We defend democracy, stand with civilians in conflict, protect the living Earth, and shape how powerful new technologies are governed. When a moment arrives where public pressure can tip a decision, we move together fast, and at scale.
We work in 17 languages, on six continents, funded entirely by our members. No government backs us. No corporation owns us. That independence is what lets us take bold stands, and see them all the way through.

The Avaaz way
How We Work
Avaaz's work is done by a community-backed global team, free to act on any issue, anywhere, anytime. A megaphone for new causes, a fire truck for emergencies, and a rapid-response force that can put hundreds of thousands of people behind a cause, or raise millions of dollars, within days.
Rapid Response
Our staff don't set an agenda and sell it to members. It's the opposite: we listen, then propose action. When members decide to act, our team carries the campaign through, with petitions, ads, legal challenges, whatever it takes.
Global Reach
In the life of any cause, a moment arrives when a decision can be tipped. Avaaz is built to meet that moment, and where it doesn't yet exist, to create it.
Independent
We're 100% member-funded, and every financial report since 2006 is public. No major donors, no foundations, no special interests. Democratic accountability is in our DNA.
